The Discovery Cruise combines a scenic Lake Te Anau boat journey, close-up waterfall experiences, a possible beach landing and a guided nature walk in Fiordland National Park.

Leaving directly from the Te Anau lakefront, we cross the lake and reach the entrance to South Fiord in around 10 minutes. The landscape quickly changes as you leave town behind and enter a world of native beech forest, mountain views, rocky bluffs, secluded beaches and waterfalls.

When conditions allow, we take the boat close to waterfalls tumbling down the fiord walls. Hear the roar, feel the spray and experience Fiordland’s waterfalls from much closer than a traditional sightseeing cruise.

Step ashore at a remote landing point accessible only by boat and follow a short forest track to the peaceful Hidden Lakes. Chris or Erica will guide the walk, sharing local stories and pointing out native plants, trees, fungi and natural features along the way.

Where lake and weather conditions permit, we may also land on a secluded beach. It is a chance to step off the boat, take in the silence and experience a corner of Fiordland that cannot be reached by road.

This two-hour small-group cruise is ideal for families, couples and visitors who want more than a scenic boat ride but do not have time for a longer Fiordland adventure. It brings together cruising, waterfalls, native forest and remote shoreline—all within easy reach of Te Anau.
